Troubleshooting: issue with subdomains i Cpanel

hi,

all subdomains under this account seem ok to me in dns zone but they don't resolve

exemple: http://japan.bookhostelbook.com but all others as well

What should be dns settings for subdomains under VPS if it's not what's there then please

Kindly

Hi,

actually http://japan.bookhostelbook.com/ is opening fine when tested from several locations and ISP's, but is opening directory listing of folder:

/home/hostelbo/public_html/country_info/asia/japan/japan_information_by_city.php

since you don't have any website or index files in there.

It is likely not yet resolving for you because your ISP does not recognize the subdomain yet (it doesn't have it yet in its DNS cache), but once it propagates fully it should be visible.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

hi,

actually looks like I misplaced the problem:

actually it looks like the files have been replaced by empty folders...

all files with .php are now folders containing a cgi folder...

I'm not sure how that happened but I hope you can tell me.

also maybe we'd need to load a backup for this website please

Thanks

Hi,

I'm not sure I quite understand you, you wan't us to restore main reseller account from backup, or just this bookhostelbook.com account?

Please advise.

yes please because it looks like the files are corrupt here...: you tell me:

in many folders the .php files are not files anymore. They are now folders. This is why i thought that subdomains were wrong... actually the file themselves now show an folder with the same name... rather than the file

So I think we should reload backup

also if you know why this happened, please tell me

Kindly

Hi,

you did not answer to my question entirely, do you want only bookhostelbook.com restored?

As for how this happened, it happened because when you created the subdomains in cPanel you set the document root paths for those subdomains incorrectly, for example for subdomain japan.bookhostelbook.com you have set document root path to:

/public_html/country_info/asia/japan/japan_information_by_city.php

You cant set document root path to a filename, only to a folder where that subdomain files are. Tthis should have been set to for example:

/public_html/country_info/asia/japan/

And than in folder japan you would have index.html or whatever index page for this subdomain.

So once you set the document root path to a file name cPanel basically created the folder with that filename and by that it owerwrote the actual file there.

hi,

yes, only bookhostelbook

but then are subdomains going to work again? i guess not... how come it was working before though?

Should i rename all these files in these folders and re-make all subdomains?

Kindly

Hi,

yes it would be wise to remove all subdomains and than recreate them properly so their document root's are pointing to a folder not to a file.

However as I can see you don't have backups enabled on your server so we can't restore the account, however we can restore particular folder or files from full server backup that we have for your server, and we have following:

Aug 9 09:32

Aug 13 11:36

So we could restore only folder /public_html/country_info/asia/ from one of these 2 full VPS backup archives.

Please advise if we can go ahead with this and from which backup archive you would like this restored if so.
