Setting up CNAME and A record for subdomain for online hotel booking affiliate program

Hi,
I'm testing some program and for it, i need to make a subdomain (hotels/ already created, i hope properly),
and I need to make an A Record for that subdomain that would point to IP xxx
and this i don't know how to do, even from whm...
also, if u can help me to finish that, can u tell me if this can bring collateral problem?
thanks if you can help

exemple website by:

Reserve Cheap Hotel Room in UK London, France Paris, Switzerland Geneva, USA New York, Thailand Bangkok, Cambodia Phnom Phen, Japan Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Singapore, Hong Kong, China Beijing Shanghai, Australia Sidney Perth, India Bombay Goa Delhi, Russia Moscow St Petersbourg

Kindly

root password is xxx
actually, now I think what I need to do is the following:
I need , for the subdomain hostel.xxx.com to create a CNAME Record to www.Hotels.com
subdomain has already been created, but I'm not sure about A record for it...
but then what I have to do is very confusing... it sais I quote:
"It will NOT allow you to foward a domain to a specific web page. Use a webhop for that. Port numbers can be changed with webhops, as well; CNAMEs cannot change the HTTP default of 80 to any other port number"
I guess that means I got to do that as well
...
please tell me if that request in unclear :S
Kindly

Greetings,

You cannot have both, an A record and a CNAME record for the same subdomain.
I would first try to contact the software's support asking them what needs to be done exactly.
Then, just let us know what needs to be done and we will help you configuring the dns part.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again for further information.

Sincerely,

Yes, I think you're right
what i got to do:
"pointing that domain name (hotels.x.com) to our IP address (xxx)

You can create a CNAME Record to www.HotelsCombined.com

You should use a CNAME record whenever you want associate a new subdomain to an already existing A record; i.e. you can make "www.somedomain.tld" to "somedomain.tld", which should already have been assigned an IP with an A record.

This allows you to have as many subdomains as you wish without having to specify the IP for every record. Use a CNAME if you have more services pointing to the same IP. This way you will have to update only one record in the convenience of a change of IP address.

Example of a CNAME record: "stuff.everybox.com CNAME www.everybox.com" where 'www.everybox.com' is an A record listing an IP address, and 'stuff.everybox.com' points to 'www.everybox.com'. It will NOT allow you to foward a domain to a specific web page. Use a webhop for that. Port numbers can be changed with webhops, as well; CNAMEs cannot change the HTTP default of 80 to any other port number.

Do not use CNAME defined hostnames in MX records. For example, this is bad:
example.com IN MX 1 mail.example.com
mail.example.com IN CNAME mail.example.net"

actually they propose 2 ways:
"You can create an A Record to xxx

OR

You can create a CNAME Record to www.HotelsCombined.com"
and they say the second way is the best

Indeed!
What is your actual subdomain name and to which domain name would you like us to forward it to ?
We will create the CNAME record for you.

subdomain hostel.booking.com to create a CNAME Record to www.HotelsCombined.com

but they also say:
"Example of a CNAME record: "stuff.everybox.com CNAME www.everybox.com" where 'www.everybox.com' is an A record listing an IP address, and 'stuff.everybox.com' points to 'www.everybox.com'. hi
thanks a lot
but at the end of their doc they also say
Example of a CNAME record: "stuff.everybox.com CNAME www.everybox.com" where 'www.everybox.com' is an A record listing an IP address, and 'stuff.everybox.com' points to 'www.everybox.com'. It will NOT allow you to foward a domain to a specific web page. Use a webhop for that. Port numbers can be changed with webhops, as well; CNAMEs cannot change the HTTP default of 80 to any other port number

I'm not sure if this also should apply to our server...

Greetings,

Unless you need the domain name to be forwarded to a different port number, no modifications are required :)

Please do not hesitate to contact us again for further information.

well actually, i may be wrong but the redirection should have taken effect already right?
because I don't see it redirecting... i dont think we have to wait for DNS resolution on that one do we?
maybe because I had previously created that subdomain with document root redirection?

Greetings,

Since the subdomain entry already existed, you will have to wait a few hours for the dns cache to be cleared.
